Messenger Kids when it launched in 2018.

Over two years, I spearheaded design for the company's first communication app tailored for kids–an incredible opportunity to help younger users connect through a safe & educational messaging experience.

As the team’s expert in UX for kids, my mission was to collaborate with child development and SEL specialists to build an engaging onboarding flow and multiplayer activities that could empower kids to become great digital citizens.

Throughout the design process, my research partners and I continually tested concepts with real kids through user testing. In these sessions, kids interacted with motion-rich prototypes that leveraged my growing knowledge of game design and interface animation. Working closely with our art team, I designed the platform through which kids could play delightful multiplayer games, teaching vital communication skills.

The result is an app now actively used by over 7 million kids worldwide across 195 countries

This very unique project further strengthened my ability to leverage user testing & prototyping to build experiences that authentically connect with younger users.

The original onboarding flow, known as “Missions,” that launched with Messenger Kids in 2018.

User flow for a multiplayer games platform, which was heavily expanded through Messenger Kids’ need for high quality, interactive experiences.

Even years after launch, the multiplayer games platform I designed is still one of the keystones of the Messenger Kids product.
